Features & Capabilities

Auto-Reload on Error

Overview

Auto-Reload on Error is a powerful Firefox extension that automatically refreshes your tabs when specific network failures or server-side errors occur. The latest update introduces domain-level support and an enhanced per-tab configuration system, giving you granular control over monitoring tasks across your browsing sessions.

Key New Features

  • Per-Tab & Domain Configuration: You can now define monitoring rules for specific tabs or apply them across an entire domain.
  • Browser Action (Dashboard): Click the toolbar icon to view all currently monitored tabs and domain rules. You can easily focus on a monitored tab or remove it from the monitoring list.
  • Page Action (Settings): Click the icon in the URL bar to open a dedicated configuration page. Configure settings specifically for the current tab or set global rules for the current domain.
  • Smart UX: After saving settings, the extension automatically focuses on the original tab and the configuration page will auto close to minimize clutter.
Configuration Options

For each monitored tab or domain, you can customize:

  • HTTP Status Codes: Define lists of 4xx and 5xx error codes to trigger a refresh.
  • Network Error Patterns: Select or input specific network error types (e.g., NS_ERROR_NET_TIMEOUT, NS_ERROR_CONNECTION_REFUSED).
  • Static Asset Filtering: Optionally ignore errors originating from static images (enabled by default to prevent unnecessary reloads).

Supported Network Errors

The extension detects a comprehensive range of issues:

  • Connection & Protocol: NS_ERROR_NET_RESET, NS_ERROR_NET_TIMEOUT, NS_ERROR_CONNECTION_REFUSED, etc.
  • DNS & Addressing: NS_ERROR_UNKNOWN_HOST, NS_ERROR_MALFORMED_URI, etc.
  • Security & SSL: NS_ERROR_NET_SSL_HANDSHAKE_FAILED, SEC_ERROR_EXPIRED_CERTIFICATE, etc.
  • Client State: NS_ERROR_OFFLINE, NS_ERROR_BINDING_ABORTED, etc.

User Reviews

Nice extension. I know theoretically server errors should only be in the 5xx range, but that is sadly not always the case. Specifically I am interested in crt.sh, which frequently errors, sometimes with a random 404. Would be nice to be able to set a custom per-url list of errors.
