Review summary

The QR Code Reader Firefox add-on is praised for its reliable and straightforward functionality, allowing users to scan QR codes via screenshots, drag-and-drop, or uploading images. Many users appreciate its ease of installation and clean interface without ads. However, several users find the need to manually capture and load QR code images inconvenient, and the add-on opening in a separate tab instead of a popup is seen as a minor drawback. Some confusion arises from mismatched user expectations about scanning capabilities directly from the web page.
Pros
  • Accurately reads QR codes from images with ease.
  • Simple installation and straightforward to use.
  • Supports drag and drop and copy-paste of QR code images for scanning.
  • Works well and reliably as described without unwanted ads or malicious elements.
  • Allows scanning from webcam or local files by clicking its toolbar button.
Cons
  • Requires manual screenshot or image preparation to scan QR codes—does not scan codes directly from webpage without extra steps.
  • Interface opens in a separate tab which some users find inconvenient.
  • Confusing for users expecting instant scanning from web images or integrated functionality without additional steps.

2026-04-23 Ki***** Not much of a browser extension, I wanted to scan a qr code that was on the web page and I thought rather than having to screenshot it maybe there's an extension for this. Well this one isn't it, it just opens a new window where you have to either use a webcam or use a screenshot. If I'm going to have to screenshot it then how is this any better than zbar?

2025-05-19 Al***** Does exactly what it says it can do. Easy to read QR codes from the website by using the Firefox screenshot tool to copy and pasting (ctrl v) it for the addon to read the code and convert it to a link. Thank you for making this. Cheers.
