There are over 120 different types of HPV, which predominantly affect the genitals (vulva, vagina, cervix, penis, anus). Cervical cancer is the second most frequent malignant gynecological tumor in Portuguese women and in about 100% of cases it is caused by persistent HPV infection, human papillomavirus.

The Portuguese League Against Cancer (LPCC) in partnership with the Association of the Blind and Amblyopia of Portugal (ACAPO) has developed the present application on HPV and Cervical Cancer. This application provides information on the HPV virus and cervical cancer in a simple and accessible way, focusing on aspects related to the epidemiology, prevention, treatment and support to the patient with HPV and cervical cancer. The provision of free informational media in different formats, and produced in a way that guarantees accessibility in access to information, allows LPCC to continue the pursuit of its mission with regard to Health Education. This tool was built according to criteria that allow this application to be used by the entire population.
