ViaKM — Road, Kilometers, and GPS Location in Portugal

ViaKM helps identify, using the device's GPS position, the road and approximate kilometer point on roads available in the application's road database.

Main Features

• Road + Kilometer identification via GPS and the built-in road database.

• Support for Motorways (A), Main Routes (IP), Complementary Routes (IC), National Roads (EN), and other kilometer-based roads available in the database.

• View the position on a map or satellite image.

• Identification of the administrative area: Parish, Municipality, and District, using the CAOP2025 administrative boundaries of the Directorate-General for Territory (DGT).

• Display of GPS coordinates and location accuracy.

• View Map function to consult other points by tapping on the map or moving the pin. When a kilometer-based road is available in the database, it also displays the Road and the approximate Kilometer.

• Sharing of current location or a consulted point through applications available on the device.

Functioning

Road + Km identification uses GPS position and the road database incorporated in ViaKM.

The Parish, Municipality and District are determined through the CAOP2025 administrative boundaries incorporated in the application.

The map and satellite image require an internet connection to load the respective cartographic data.

Road + Km identification is intended for roads in mainland Portugal covered by the road database. On streets, avenues, paths or other roads without available kilometer referencing, a Road/Km value may not be displayed.

Information Accuracy

Results depend on GPS accuracy and the coverage and updating of available data.

Road and Km identification is approximate and auxiliary in nature. It does not replace road signs, kilometer markers, official cartography or information from competent authorities.

For consultation and validation of the National Road Network, official public information provided by Infraestruturas de Portugal, S.A., through the Public Administration Open Data Portal, is used.

ADMINISTRATIVE BOUNDARIES

For identification of the Parish, Municipality and District, the Official Administrative Map of Portugal — CAOP2025, from the Directorate-General for Territory (DGT), is used.

ViaKM also uses data from OpenStreetMap — © OpenStreetMap contributors — to complement and validate kilometric referencing information.

Road/Km values ​​result from processing the GPS position or selected point and the embedded road database, and should be considered approximate.

ViaKM is an independent application. It is not a government application, does not represent any government entity, and is not affiliated with, authorized, or sponsored by Infraestruturas de Portugal, the Directorate-General for Territory, the Portuguese State, or any other public entity.

The information presented is for auxiliary purposes and should be confirmed through existing signage and official sources when necessary.

Privacy

ViaKM does not require an account. Location is used for GPS and location functionalities. Sharing only occurs at the user's initiative.
