EDIBILITY IS A CATEGORY ABOUT A SPECIES
Every result opens with the edibility category for the species, a short label from a fixed set. Edible, Edible when cooked, Inedible, Poisonous, Deadly or Unknown. Edible when cooked is not Edible. Inedible means unpalatable, not poisonous. Poisonous and Deadly stay two levels. The label describes the species, not the specimen in your photo, which may be a look-alike or may lack the stem base. It is a category, never a score. When a photo cannot carry a species-level call it reads Unknown, and the look-alike list names what could match.

GILLED MUSHROOMS, BOLETES AND BRACKETS
Point the camera at a mushroom, or pick a photo you have. Gilled mushrooms with a cap and stem, boletes with pores underneath, bracket fungus on a trunk, puffballs in grass, cup and coral fungi. Morels, chanterelles, porcini, Amanita species including the fly agaric. Toadstools and ink caps in a lawn, small brown mushrooms in leaf litter. A plant, a lichen or a mould comes back with low confidence, not a guess.

BUILT FOR THE PHOTOS YOU ACTUALLY TAKE
Low light, from above, half the stem buried. Every result names the toxic look-alikes the species is confused with and the trait that tells them apart. With Cortinarius, Inocybe, Russula and the small brown mushrooms a single photo often cannot separate two species, and this mushroom identifier stops at the genus instead of inventing one. A photo missing the stem base cannot show a volva, and the result says so.
