Kaixo — Learn Basque

Kaixo is an app to learn Basque (Euskara) from scratch, built on a simple idea: learning a language shouldn't cost you money or your privacy.

Right now it has the complete A1 and A2 levels: 23 units and 114 short lessons, each one in Basque and English, with exercises that are corrected instantly. The next levels are being prepared and will open once they've been reviewed.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Level A1 (13 units, 65 lessons): greetings and first words, family, describing people, the bar and food, the town and its places, directions and getting around, daily routine and telling the time, the recent past, the home, neighbours and relationships, shopping, the restaurant and your weekly schedule.

Level A2 (10 units, 49 lessons): everyday situations and advice, talking about the past, NOR-NORI-NORK verbs, the conditional and being able to, comparing and giving opinions, daily life and culture, the future and plans, travel and transport, the bank, paperwork and phone calls, the mountains, sport and free time, and linking sentences to tell a story.

HOW YOU LEARN

• Short lessons of about 10 minutes, designed for one a day.
• Every lesson is in Basque and English, built around real situations: ordering at a bar, asking for directions, booking an appointment, talking about your weekend.
• Clear vocabulary and grammar tables, without jargon.
• Basque audio for vocabulary and phrases.
• Four exercise types: multiple choice, fill in the blank, matching pairs and flashcards.
• Solved exercises keep your best score, and you can redo them whenever you like.

PRACTICE EXAM

The A1 mock exam builds a different test every time from a bank of hundreds of questions, following the structure of a real exam: listening with two plays, reading, grammar and vocabulary, and writing. Take it in one go, without a dictionary, and generate a new one when you finish.

YOUR PROGRESS

• Lessons completed, study streak and your record, always visible.
• Progress by unit, so you know what's left.
• Save your progress as a code and restore it on another device, without creating an account.

IN YOUR LANGUAGE

The interface and lessons are available in 18 languages, including English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, German, Italian, Arabic, Chinese and Japanese. The app opens in Spanish: choose English from the language menu.
