PrivacyGuard Firefox

PrivacyGuard

Real-time PII protection for social media. Detects and blocks personal data violations before you post, aligned with RA 10173.

Features & Capabilities

PrivacyGuard — Real-Time PII Protection & Data Privacy Compliance

Protect your personal data before you accidentally share it. PrivacyGuard monitors the text you type in web forms and the files you upload, detecting Personally Identifiable Information (PII) — such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, government IDs, and TINs — before they leave your browser.

With the rise of data breaches and online tracking, ensuring your privacy has never been more important. PrivacyGuard acts as your frontline defense by alerting you to sensitive data exposures and optionally blocking submissions, giving you the chance to review what you share before posting. Our extension is designed to align with strict data privacy frameworks, like the Data Privacy Act (RA 10173).

Key Features:

  • Real-Time PII Detection: Instantly flags sensitive information in text inputs across the websites you visit.
  • File Upload Scanning: Scans text-based file uploads (such as CSVs and TXTs) for PII before the upload goes through.
  • Smart Alerts & Blocking:* Receive an immediate warning if sensitive data is detected, with the ability to pause and review your submission.
  • Sentiment Analysis: Analyzes the context of your input to determine risk levels based on intent.
  • Customizable Settings Easily configure your privacy settings, adjust sensitivity, and whitelist trusted websites where monitoring isn't needed.

Your Privacy and Data Transparency: We believe privacy tools should be completely transparent about how they handle your data.

  • Secure Analysis: To perform advanced Named Entity Recognition (NER), the text you type and the files you upload are sent via secure HTTPS to our dedicated, secure backend server for real-time analysis.
  • Local-Only Storage: All of your personal scan history and detection logs are stored locally on your device. We do not store the content you type on our servers.
  • Zero Data Sharing: Your data is strictly yours. We do not sell, rent, or share your data or browsing activity with third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.
  • Anonymized Metrics: The only data aggregated to our servers are anonymous counts of detection types (e.g., "5 names detected") for diagnostic and educational purposes, tied only to a random, anonymous instance ID.

Is PrivacyGuard Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

PrivacyGuard requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.

This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

PrivacyGuard is recently added, and hasn't been around long enough for us to gather enough data to accurately assess its risk level.
