User reviews

The Display #Anchors extension is praised for making deep-link sharing and navigation on webpages straightforward and effortless. Users highlight its lightweight and non-intrusive nature, alongside reliability in Chrome. However, some report visual issues where anchors overlap page content or cause layout shifts on specific sites. Feature requests include adding a TOC sidebar and more customizable options. It also lacks compatibility with browsers like Edge. Overall, it is deemed an essential, easy-to-use tool especially beneficial for developers and users frequently navigating large documents.
Pros
  • Provides easy access to deep-links or anchors on webpages, making it simple to share links to specific sections.
  • Lightweight, non-intrusive, and simple to use without unnecessary permissions.
  • Works reliably on many websites and in Chrome, beneficial especially for developers and users dealing with long or dense documents.
  • Highly appreciated for improving navigation on pages lacking anchor links.
  • Helps avoid the need to manually inspect page elements to find anchors or IDs.
Cons
  • Sometimes the displayed anchors overlap with page text, leading to visual clutter or readability issues.
  • On certain websites (e.g., TestRail), toggling anchors causes page content to shift or indent oddly.
  • Limited features such as lack of a Table of Contents (TOC) sidebar or options to customize appearance or behavior of anchors.
  • Does not work in all browsers, notably not working in Edge, limiting cross-browser utility.

An extension that is hard to live without. I'm surprised it's an optional feature, but I use it so often I don't see why it isn't part of every browser by default.
