User Reviews

Users praise Solid Explorer for strong network/cloud integration, PC-like file-management versatility, reliability, and fast cloud transfers. However, frequent update-related regressions are a major pain point: SMB/LAN/NAS connectivity breaks, license checks fail, SFTP/FTP support degrades, and core actions (copy, filtered selections) can stop working. Some users also report permission issues and disliked UI changes. Overall, the app is highly valued when functioning, but update-induced instability is the dominant drawback.
Pros
  • Strong network and cloud storage integration with encryption features for remote access and security.
  • PC-like versatility and robust file-management capabilities (create/rename/delete, compress, sort, bookmarking, app selection).
  • Long-standing, reliable file manager with a simple, no-bloat UX and steady improvements.
  • Fast and reliable cloud transfers across services, including solid performance with Solid Explorer cloud and Google Cloud integration.
Cons
  • SMB/LAN/NAS connectivity frequently broken after updates, with unknown errors and inability to connect to devices.
  • License/activation issues (Can't read license) affecting usage after updates.
  • SFTP/FTP support broken in recent versions (TLS/resuming sessions and cipher compatibility issues).
  • Update regressions that remove or cripple core functionality (e.g., copy between drives, filtered selection actions, and other UI changes).
  • Permission-related barriers (e.g., system folder access denied) and other permission/UX regressions.

A product so nice I bought it twice. Well worth the cost of admission to upgrade to the newest flavor of this app. Well designed, executed, perfect amount of bells and whistles.

5 star reduced to 1 star due to privacy concerns, even tho I've paid for licence. They do not need: post code (that's my home address, accurate to a about a dozen properties), email address, gender, device boot time, my first and last name, battery data. If I use a privacy app to block this leaky data, I lose access to WebDAV functions. I would prefer a privacy respecting file manager. A licence does not buy you privacy
