PersistentPin Firefox

PersistentPin

Pins the same websites across browser restarts.

Features & Capabilities

PersistentPin is a Chrome extension designed to preserve your pinned tabs across browser restarts. Unlike the default behavior where pinned tabs can be lost upon closing the browser or clearing history, PersistentPin ensures the same websites remain open and pinned each time you launch Chrome. This extension is especially useful for users who want to clear their browsing history for privacy but maintain their essential pinned sites for quick access.

Configuring PersistentPin is straightforward via the preferences menu, allowing users to tailor it to their browsing habits. The extension is a modern rewrite of the older App Tab Initializer with full compatibility for modern multi-process browsers, delivering faster performance and reliability. For support or feature requests, users can contribute or raise issues on the extension's GitHub repository.

User Reviews

Users generally praise PersistentPin for restoring and persisting pinned tabs, its simple UI, and cross-device sync. When it works, it behaves like a native pinned tab and feels reliable, with several reviews noting pins stay put across sessions and devices. However, multiple reviews report incompatibilities with newer Firefox versions and pins disappearing after restarts or updates. Some mention missing cross-window persistence and limited container support. A manual setup may be required in some cases. Overall, the extension is valuable but its reliability varies with browser version.
Pros
  • Restores and persists pinned tabs across sessions and devices.
  • Cross-device synchronization of pins and settings.
  • Easy to use with a simple, minimalist UI.
  • Provides native-like pinned-tab behavior when it works.
  • Generally stable and reliable when it functions properly.
Cons
  • Compatibility issues with latest Firefox versions, causing it to break or stop working.
  • Pins can disappear or reset after restarts or browser updates.
  • Lacks cross-window persistence and container integration (missing cross-window pinning and multi-account container support).

Huge thanks to the developer — exactly what I needed in a minimalist extension. Pinned tabs unfortunately don’t remember their container after restore (I use sidebery). I’d really love to see this fixed.
