User Reviews

Wheelmap is praised for its concept and user-friendly interface that focuses on wheelchair accessibility with community-driven data. However, users repeatedly mention insufficient data due to low participation, slow app performance, and the need to manually input places rather than browsing accessible locations. Additional features like detailed comments, route accessibility, and improved localization are requested to enhance usability. Overall, while the app is useful in theory, its practical effectiveness is limited without more user contributions and technical improvements.
Pros
  • Good idea and concept addressing wheelchair accessibility.
  • User-friendly and simple to use interface.
  • Based on OpenStreetMap (OSM) data, allowing community contributions.
  • Free to use and helpful for users seeking accessible places.
  • Encourages user contributions to improve accessibility information.
Cons
  • Lack of sufficient data and users contributing information, leading to many places missing.
  • App is slow, with excessive loading times when using the map.
  • Requires users to know and input places as it does not display all accessible locations automatically.
  • Limited accessibility information and no way to add detailed comments or ratings for places or routes.
  • Localization issues with languages and limited coverage outside certain regions.

I'm just starting out with this app. I've updated one place with no information and wanted to add photos that I took at the weekend, but it will only let me take photos, not pick from my gallery. So no photos for that place then!
