Review summary

Users praise the 'Understood' app for its practical tools and resources to manage ADHD behaviors and support neurodivergent individuals. The behavior tracking using the ABC method and expert advice are especially valued. However, common issues include limited behavior logging options, difficulty managing multiple children within the app, and challenges during setup. Some users miss the more robust content previously available, requesting expanded training and adult-focused features. Overall, it is a useful supportive tool appreciated by parents and adults, but could improve with more comprehensive tracking and broader functionalities.
Pros
  • Provides practical guidelines, tools, and strategies to help understand and manage ADHD and related behaviors in children.
  • Includes behavior tracking features using the ABC (Antecedent, Behavior, Consequence) method helpful for parents and adults with ADHD.
  • Contains helpful resources, expert advice, and courses that support users through difficult situations and promote learning and self-awareness.
  • User-friendly interface with reliable and comprehensive information suitable for parents, caregivers, educators, and individuals with ADHD.
  • Supports journaling and reflection which improves users' understanding of behaviors and emotions, positively impacting parenting and self-management.
Cons
  • Behavior tracking options are reported as limited and too general, with few detailed choices and lacking the ability to log multiple children in one app.
  • App setup and sign-up process can be problematic, including issues with selecting user role (parent, educator, self) and grade level, which is difficult for families with multiple children.
  • Some users feel the app has lost valuable features such as expert lessons and comprehensive resources compared to its previous versions, making it more of a basic tracker now.
  • Desire for more advanced and varied content beyond initial courses and training, as well as features tailored for adults with ADHD.
  • Certain content and features are not fully free, which some users wish were more accessible.

so far this app is helping me to slow down so that I can help my children more proactively rather than just reacting.

It insinuates that all mental disorders like ADHD cause meltdowns and outburst. I, who looked at this even though it's me who I was talking about with the disorder, don't have outbursts. I have shutdowns. Untalking, emotionless outside about to cry or wanting to scream on the inside, unwilling to eat or drink or do anything, maybe more. Just total shutdowns that can last for hours. It's good for parents that have kids that have outbursts and all that have diagnoses. But not all kids are the same

so far this has been very helpful tracking my kiddos behaviors. I like that there are lessons available for free. however, I think it would be really nice to share access with a second parent/guardian so both can add behaviors.
