Mridangam

Mridangam - Mridanga Laya Vinyasa is a carnatic mridangam sequencer.
Using Pattern Editor, create patterns of specific lengths using mridangam strokes.
In Sequence Editor, many patterns can be added in a timeline to form a mridangam recital of a specific Tala. Each beat can be divided into 3,4,5,6,7,8 or 9 sub-beats. Thus, sequences support various sub-beats of Carnatic music such as tisra, cahtusra, khanda, misra, sankeerna and chatusra-tisra in 5 speeds(chauka, vilamba, madhyama, durita and ati-durita). Overall Tempo is controlled by tempo setting which ranges from 10 to 200 BPM (Beats per minute).

Patterns and sequences can be used in Live Pad pages where looper patterns can be played in a loop, filler patterns are used to fill till specific tala points, ending patterns play and end the loop. Live pad pages can be customized by assigning user created patterns and sequences to pad buttons.

The app has a Tala Metronome which is used to visually keep tala along with metronome. Metronome can tick based on the tala selected in 'digital ticks' or 'acoustic claps' mode. Tala Metronome can be very useful to practice carnatic music along with Tambura shruti in the app.

The app has a unique Korvai Generator, which generates various types of playable carnatic rhythmic ending patterns for a given tala, number of cycles, and eduppu. You can experiment with generated korvais using pre-loaded phrases and get creative ideas to form your own. Your ideas can be fed to the app's engine by creating patters and sequences and get it played on the app.

It is a unique tool which is useful to Carnatic music students, musicians and laya enthusiasts. The app can be used as an Educational tool. Create playable mridangam practice lessons as sequences (along with spoken words) and share them. Shared sequences can be imported into the app and played to practice along with the app.
