User Reviews

Planets is praised for its simple, intuitive interface and reliable planet/sky positions, with years of use by skywatchers. However, many reviews report startup crashes and crashes on newer Android devices after updates, plus location-permission and display/orientation issues. Core features remain strong, but stability and Android compatibility updates are needed.
Pros
  • Easy to use and straightforward interface
  • Long-standing reliability; used for years with good steady performance
  • Real-time space exploration and planet/sky position features
  • Actively maintained with updates (Android 14 compatibility) and positive updates mentioned by users
Cons
  • App crashes or wont open on startup on newer Android devices and after updates
  • Compatibility issues with newer Android versions (Android 13/14) requiring updates to work properly
  • Location-permission prompts sometimes trigger crashes or prevent opening
  • Location display problems (incorrect coordinates like 0,0; 360-degree misalignment) and manual location changes can be limited
  • Orientation/motion controls issues and other bugs in newer versions

it was off just a little bit when you're looking at the sky, but right now I can't get it to come off of North. it will not reorient. The only way to look around right now, is to do it manually. I uninstalled and reinstalled but it made no difference.
