User Reviews

The Piwigo Android app functions primarily as a basic photo viewer for self-hosted servers, appreciated for its ease of server setup and browsing capabilities. However, multiple users report a stringent 100 photo per album viewing limit and unreliable upload functionality limited to one photo at a time. Key features like auto-sync, photo sharing, downloading, and video playback are missing. Login issues and app instability further limit usability. While users recognize its potential and the developers' efforts, many consider the app underdeveloped and in need of significant improvements.
Pros
  • Good as a photo gallery viewer for the server images.
  • Easy server setup and browsing photos on server is straightforward.
  • Free and open-source project with potential for improvement.
  • User appreciates the general Piwigo software package and CMS.
  • Developers are motivated and responsive to feedback.
Cons
  • 100 photo per album limit severely restricts viewing and is not clearly communicated.
  • Uploading photos is unreliable; limited to single uploads with inconsistent success.
  • Lack of key features like auto-sync, photo sharing links, and downloading photos from albums.
  • Login issues especially with self-signed certificates and guest account problems.
  • App is basic and unstable with missing functions like video playback, search, and exit functionality.

This is a GREAT project. The Android APP is a good start. So far, the 100 photo limit on Android is a drawback I hope the developers can overcome. Maybe a way to page through a directory's photos 100 at a time...

The application doesn't work for managing albums. It's not possible to log in, getting the "attempt to read from 'boolean...'" error. The latest version of Piwigo installed on the server.
