OpenNVR Cam Android

OpenNVR Cam

Turn your phone into an RTSP IP camera. Stream to OpenNVR or any NVR you run.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

OpenNVR Cam turns your Android phone into a standard RTSP IP camera.

Why it exists: not owning an IP camera shouldn't stop you from running and
experimenting with OpenNVR. With this app, any spare Android phone becomes a real camera feed in seconds — ideal for developers, testers, and anyone evaluating OpenNVR before buying hardware.

There are two ways to get the phone into your NVR.

1) Your NVR pulls from the phone (Wi-Fi)
Tap start and the app runs an RTSP server on your phone and gives you a URL like
rtsp://192.168.1.42:8554/ — paste it into OpenNVR, VLC, or any NVR or player, and your phone shows up just like a regular IP camera. There's a QR code of the URL so you can scan it straight into your NVR, and the app also announces itself over ONVIF, so NVRs that auto-discover cameras will simply find it.
This needs Wi-Fi: the phone and the NVR must be on the same local network. It does not work on mobile data, because your carrier places the phone behind carrier-grade NAT and blocks incoming connections — nothing can connect in to the phone there.

2) The phone pushes to your server (works on mobile data too)
Switch on "Push to my server" and enter your own server's ingest URL, for example
rtsp://192.168.1.10:8554/phone1 (rtmp:// and srt:// also work). The phone dials out to your server, and outbound connections are not blocked by carrier NAT — so this works on mobile data and across networks, as long as your server is reachable.
You supply the server; the app never sends video anywhere else.

Features
• Generic RTSP camera — works with any NVR or player, not just OpenNVR
• Push mode: publish over RTSP, RTMP or SRT to a server you control
• ONVIF discovery so your NVR can find the phone automatically
• QR code of the stream URL for quick setup
• Main (720p) or low-res (360p) substream role
• Front or rear camera, with torch and tap-to-focus
• Runs as a foreground service so it keeps streaming
• Local-first: the video goes only where you point it. No cloud, no account, no telemetry, no ads.
