NJACP

The New Jersey Association of Community Providers (NJACP) is the state’s leading voice for community-based services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Representing over 80 diverse provider agencies, NJACP delivers critical information, support, training, networking, and advocacy to strengthen a sustainable community-based system across the Garden State.
Together, NJACP members support thousands of individuals with I/DD and those with traumatic brain injuries in nearly every community in New Jersey. These services promote independence, choice, dignity, and meaningful inclusion in daily life—ensuring that individuals not only live in the community but truly thrive in it.
Founded on a Vision of Community Inclusion
In the late 1970s, a powerful movement took root—centered on the belief that individuals with developmental disabilities should have the opportunity to live, grow, and participate fully in their communities. That vision led to the formation of provider agencies across the state and the establishment of the New Jersey Association of Community Residential Providers (NJACRP) in 1980.
NJACRP began as a network dedicated to building community residences and fostering communication among agencies. By the early 1990s, as services evolved to meet a wider range of individual needs, the organization transitioned to become the New Jersey Association of Community Providers (NJACP), a reflection of its expanding mission and influence.
Today, NJACP remains a steadfast advocate for individuals with I/DD and brain injuries, and for the agencies that serve them. From policy leadership and member support to public awareness and best practices, NJACP continues to drive progress toward a more inclusive and person-centered New Jersey.
From its grassroots beginnings to its statewide leadership, NJACP shapes policy, elevates provider excellence, and upholds the rights and dignity of the individuals they serve.
