Review summary

Users praise Learning Ally for accessibility and educational value, especially for dyslexic readers, and for its broad book selection useful for homeschooling. However, recurring complaints focus on reliability: playback glitches with repeated sections, jumps, and pauses; poor narration quality—robotic/AI-like voices, mispronunciations, and inconsistent readers; and stability problems such as books disappearing after updates and sign-in errors. Additional frustrations include a sticky audio slider, screen-off resets, and laggy downloads. Overall, the app is valued for accessibility and content but needs fixes to playback reliability and voice quality to meet expectations.
Pros
  • Accessibility and learning support for readers with dyslexia and other reading difficulties, making study and reading easier.
  • Large selection of books, especially valuable for homeschooling and higher education.
  • Easy to follow along with audiobooks and generally helpful when the app is functioning.
  • Positive overall service and value when the app works.
Cons
  • Frequent playback/navigation glitches, including skipping, jumping back, repeating sections, and pauses.
  • Narration/recording quality problems: robotic/AI-like voices, mispronunciations, and inconsistent readers.
  • Stability and account issues: books disappearing after updates, sign-in errors, and signup problems.
  • Controls and performance annoyances: sticky audio slider, screen-off resets, and laggy/download issues.

it's a great service but the app needs a lot of work, it always bumps back like 5 pages then you have to skip ahead to try and find your spot, also freezes a lot.

really great!! I struggle to read alot and this app is helpful. i just wish you could change the voice or make the readers sound a bit more... human? I'm reading 'Girl in Pieces' and the reader sounds totally Ai. also trying to get the reader to read a line again is really a pain.

While I'm appreciative of the service, as we have long book lists to get through with our homeschooling, I have to grind my teeth just to get through listening to a book. The people reading are usually terrible. Names are butchered, page numbers are read in the middle of a sentence, and one we're listening to now the lady is constantly leaving out words- like her mouth isn't next to the mic or something. One book we read had a new person reading almost every chapter. It's very frustrating.
