Калам

The Kalam app is designed for native speakers of the Andi language, as well as for anyone interested in learning it. It features Andi translations of books from the Old Testament Scriptures: the Book of Jonah and the Book of Ruth. The translation was carried out by native Andi speakers in Dagestan, in collaboration with a team of specialists in Biblical studies and linguistics from the Institute for Bible Translation.
The translation was produced using an oral method, the primary result of which is an audio recording. Subsequently, this audio recording was also transcribed into a text format.

The app offers an opportunity to study the Andi language. Internet access is required to stream audio synchronized with the text. In the "Settings" menu, users can select the "Download audio files" option. Once selected, an internet connection is needed only once—to download the audio files to your device—after which they can be listened to offline. As the audio plays, the corresponding text segment is highlighted in color; this feature can be disabled in "Settings."

The app also allows users to listen to audio recordings of specific, selected text segments. A simple tap on the text allows you to either play the audio for a specific verse or display that verse superimposed on an image. The background image can be selected from within the app itself or from the user's device gallery. The text displayed over the image can be visually customized using a built-in photo-quote editor. These photo-quotes can be shared directly from the user's device via messaging apps and social media platforms.

Users can:

* highlight verses in various colors, set bookmarks, and write notes;
* search for specific words or phrases;
* view their reading history;
* share a link to the app on Google Play with other users;
* increase or decrease the font size in the "Text Appearance" section, as well as select alternative color schemes (sepia or light text on a black background).

The app also includes Russian and English translations. They can be connected in a linear mode or in parallel as a second screen.
