GeoLibre

A free and open-source, lightweight, cloud-native GIS platform

Overview

Features & Capabilities

GeoLibre is a free and open-source, lightweight, cloud-native GIS platform for visualizing, exploring, and analyzing geospatial data. It runs on the desktop, in the web browser, on mobile, and inside Jupyter notebooks, all while keeping your data local and private.

Built with MapLibre GL JS and modern web technologies, GeoLibre delivers a fast, intuitive mapping experience with support for a wide range of vector, raster, point cloud, and 3D data. Whether you are working with local files, cloud-hosted services, or large-scale Earth observation data, GeoLibre streamlines your geospatial workflows through an extensible plugin architecture.

What you can do with GeoLibre:

• Visualize and style vector and raster layers with live symbology, graduated and categorized renderers, labeling, heatmaps, and clustering
• Load data from dozens of sources: local files, XYZ and vector tiles, WMS and WFS services, COG and GeoTIFF rasters, ArcGIS FeatureServer and VectorTileServer layers, CAD drawings, and more
• Explore 3D terrain, point clouds, 3D Tiles, and glTF models, with deck.gl-powered overlays
• Query your data with spatial SQL using a built-in DuckDB, PostGIS, and Apache Sedona workspace
• Run analysis tools for vector, raster, spectral indices, network routing, geocoding, and spatial statistics, in the browser or through an optional Python engine
• Edit and digitize features, collect field observations, and manage attribute tables with charts and field statistics
• Build story maps, record animated camera tours, and export projects to standalone interactive HTML
• Speed up your work with AI-assisted plugins such as GeoAgent (natural-language GIS) and GeoEditor

Supported formats include GeoJSON, Shapefile, GeoPackage, GeoParquet, FlatGeobuf, PMTiles, MBTiles, KML, KMZ, GPX, GeoTIFF, COG, Zarr, LiDAR point clouds, 3D Tiles, and ArcGIS services.

GeoLibre is open source and designed for researchers, GIS professionals, educators, students, developers, and organizations seeking a modern, cross-platform alternative for geospatial data visualization and analysis.
