Welcome back to the era of old home computers when chip music was popular and apps had their name and version included in the title bar.

SidAMP is a music player which supports the SID format known from the Commodore 64/128 home computers.

It uses the High Voltage SID Collection as the main data resource. This means when the app is started for the first time a download of approx. 90mb is required for the complete archive and additional 500mb storage space is required for unpacking. Please don't delete or modify any of the text files from the archive; they are used constantly by the app.

SID emulation:
From the main menu you can choose between SID chips or use the auto detect function. Please note that 8580 emulation should be used in combination with Digi Boost which can be toggled from the player screen.

Playlists:
This feature is still under development. Currently one default playlist is used. Playlist options are placed in the main menu; you can add/remove songs (song must be loaded) or import a playlist from previous versions of SidAMP.

Uses permissions:
* INTERNET ACCESS for downloading HVSC music collections
* POST NOTIFICATIONS for showing player controls in the status bar
* READ EXTERNAL STORAGE for loading music from expansion cards (optional)
* RECORD AUDIO for audio output visualisation (optional)

However, repeated concerns about the mobile UX persist: cramped navigation on phones, fiddly scrolling, and a non-intuitive file/HVSC setup. The search feature is notably unreliable, with results often missing or hard to use. A missing loop/repeat function and the inability to use local SID directories further hinder usability. Overall, SidAMP delivers strong audio fidelity and a charming retro experience, but it would benefit from a more phone-friendly UI, robust search, and easier local directory access.

Works superbly! FYI, the downloading to internal storage causes more and more problems. Not only is it impossible to edit playlists in a useful fashion, but the space used by HVSC just grows indefinitely, since on donwloading a new version the old one isn't deleted, and because it's internal storage users can't delete it either!

I like the way this app integrates with HVSC, and the playback quality seems generally OK. The user interface is fine, and easy enough to navigate once you get used to it. Edit as of v1.4.0 of the app. The additional information and controls in the interface are welcome changes, and the "now playing" text at the bottom scrolls much faster than it did before (previously it was too slow). An option to repeat or loop the currently playing SID would be welcome in a future update.
