Ciadueña RA

Ciadueña RA brings you closer to the most important archaeological site discovered in the province of Soria in the 21st century. Located in the hamlet of Ciadueña, within the municipality of Barca (Almazán), this site is considered by researchers to be an exceptional case: it is a Celtiberian city that, unlike Numantia, Uxama, or Tiermes, was never Romanized, preserving its urban layout and indigenous architecture intact.

The excavation campaigns carried out between 2010 and 2017 unearthed a network of streets with sidewalks and paved walkways, protected by a 25-meter-wide moat and a rammed-earth wall. Inside, the rectangular houses retain walls up to 1.5 meters high, built with stone foundations, wooden frames, adobe walls, and flat roofs of packed earth. Carbon-14 dating places these structures around 200 BC, confirming their abandonment in the second half of the 1st century BC.

The site has also revealed a peri-urban area with pottery kilns and metallurgical remains, as well as evidence of active trade, including millstones brought from the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains. Among the most notable finds is the famous Horse Vase, a 68-liter vessel decorated with five equine figures representing the stages of the animal's growth and domestication. Complete ceramic assemblages, household items, and projectiles complete this unique collection.

Due to the extreme fragility of these mud and wood structures, the site was covered again after excavation and is currently inaccessible to the public. This app breaks down that barrier, allowing visitors to explore it from anywhere.
