Vijayadashami is a festival of celebrating the win of virtuous over evil. Effigies of Ravana and Megnatha are burnt symbolically to signify the destruction of evil while giving a message to the society that the evil will always get a bitter end.
Noteworthy is the fact that our gynocentric society reserves criminality to only men and excludes women as symbols of evil.
This Surpankha Dahan app is a mini game that allows you to experience the burning of Ravana and Surpanakha on the comfort of your smartphone.
To break this gender stereotype, every year on Dussehra various members of Vaastav Foundation, and other mens rights NGO, burn surpanakha to put forth the message to the society that “all women are not angels nor all men are criminals”
On the day of Dussehra every year we cut the nose of Surpanakha as a symbol of punishing deceitful women & burn her & Raavan as a triumph of good over evil”.
Vaastav Foundation Men’s Right Activists perform the awareness programme at various locations across the country.
This problem of deceitful wife is also faced by men in many other countries such as Japan and South korea. Men are spreading awareness and requests to treat men and women equally and without gender bias against any gender male or female.
