ORCID ID Detector Firefox

ORCID ID Detector

Automatically detect ORCID IDs on web pages and display researcher information. This is 3rd party addon, NOT created or endorsed by ORCID, NOT official ORCID software

Features & Capabilities

Instantly recognizes ORCID iDs on any webpage and adds a small, clickable icon to open a clean, accessible profile preview. See name, affiliation, recent works, keywords, and links at a glance—then jump to ORCID.org in one click. No sign‑in, no tracking, no data collection.

Full description ORCID ID Detector enhances pages that mention ORCID iDs. When an iD is detected, the add-on highlights it and shows a subtle magnifying-glass icon. Click either the iD or the icon to open a compact profile preview with key details and quick links.

Features • Automatic detection of ORCID iDs in common formats (including orcid.org links) • One‑click profile preview: name, affiliation, works count, keywords, external links • Direct link to the full record on ORCID.org • Works on static and dynamic pages (MutationObserver support) • Responsive design with dark mode, high contrast, and reduced‑motion support • Minimal UI that blends into host pages

How it works • Content script scans visible text for ORCID patterns • Clicking an iD fetches public profile data from ORCID’s public API • A lightweight popup renders the data without leaving the current page

Privacy • No data collection, analytics, or tracking of any kind • All detection happens locally in your browser • Requests are made only to ORCID’s public API when you click an iD

Permissions • activeTab and host permissions for orcid.org to fetch public data on demand

Compatibility • Firefox and Chromium‑based browsers (Chrome, Edge) with the same codebase

Notes • Third‑party tool: not created or endorsed by ORCID • ORCID® is a registered trademark of ORCID, Inc.
