Features & Capabilities

Hi, my name is Bob Uomini. I wrote OpenComments because I was sick and tired of my product reviews on certain online stores being removed for “violating community guidelines,” guidelines created by “our big advertisers don’t like what you say about their products.”

So I took action. Instead of posting on a platform that someone else controls and risking censorship, I use OpenComments to post my comments directly on their website.

With the OpenComments extension, every time you navigate to a page, you’ll see what other people are saying about the company or product behind it. OpenComments disrupts the power model by giving us all an equal say in what’s said on the Web, thus leveling the playing field for the rest of us.

But OpenComments isn’t just a new way to post product reviews. Many sites don’t offer forums for visitors to discuss them. How do you know if an unknown company is legit or a scam? Protect yourself by starting or joining a discussion right on the business’s home page to read unfiltered comments posted directly by other users like you.

The rule is simple: if you can access it, you can post on it.

The OpenComments extension is a great way to post comments using a Chromium-based browser, such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and others, on a desktop or laptop, but what about those who use a non-Chromium browser, such as Apple Safari or someone who prefers to use a mobile device? With the OpenComments Web App, anyone on any platform can enjoy the same functionality as the extension, including reading, posting, and replying to comments, simply by navigating to app.opencomments.com and logging in anonymously or using their email.

You own the Web. Make your voice heard.

And remember: the more people use OpenComments, the stronger your voice becomes, so be sure to invite your friends to install the extension and share their thoughts.

Is Open Comments Plus Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Open Comments Plus requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.
