Old Reddit Redirect

Ensure Reddit always loads the old design

Features & Capabilities

Old Reddit Redirect ensures Reddit always loads the classic old design instead of the redesign. It opts you out of the new interface, redirects Reddit links and bookmarks to old.reddit.com, and works whether you are logged in, logged out, or browsing in incognito mode. It also helps avoid Reddit’s new login wall.

Click the extension icon to switch between old and new Reddit. Additional quality-of-life features remove the undismissable cookie banner and prevent Reddit from rendering raw image URLs as HTML. Old Reddit Redirect is free, open source, and available on GitHub for community contributions.

User Reviews

Old Reddit Redirect is praised for improving the Reddit experience by speeding pages and reducing clutter, while remaining quiet in the background. Reviewers consistently call it reliable and non-disruptive when it works with the current Reddit layout. However, reliability can drop with the newer Reddit interface, with multiple users reporting it stops working. Media handling is also a concern: images sometimes fail to load or show Processing img.... Overall, users value the extension for a simpler, faster experience when it functions, but UI changes from Reddit can make it unstable.
Pros
  • Improves Reddit experience by making pages faster and cleaner.
  • Quiet, unobtrusive operation that stays in the background.
  • Generally reliable and non-disruptive when it works with the current Reddit layout.
Cons
  • Unreliable with the newer Reddit interface; several users report it stops working.
  • Media loading issues on comments, with images sometimes failing to load or show Processing img...

This is actually useful when you disliked Reddit's new design, I love it!

Before recent changes, this was a must-have extension for me. 6 out of 5 stars. Unfortunately it is now randomly not working. If the Reddit post is just text the redirect works fine, if the Reddit post has ANY kind of multi-media (picture, video) the redirect to old.reddit is ignored. That's like 50% of the posts on Reddit. This extension is not really working now. I'm using Firefox browser.
