Old Reddit Redirect

Ensure Reddit always loads the old design

Dislike Reddit's redesign? Old Reddit Redirect will ensure that you always load the old (old.reddit.com) design instead.

Forces all reddit.com links to old.reddit.com, including navigating to the site, opening links or using old bookmarks.

Unlike the account setting for turning off the design, this works regardless of whether you are logged in or not or in incognito mode. The extension also blocks the EU cookie notice that forces a redirect to new reddit.

You can still access new reddit, if you need, by explicitly loading sh.reddit.com.

Old Reddit Redirect is free and open source. The code is available at github.com/tom-james-watson/old-reddit-redirect. Pull requests are more than welcome.

User reviews

Old Reddit Redirect is appreciated for restoring the old Reddit layout, which many users find faster and more pleasant. It works well as of mid-2025 and is seen as essential by fans of the classic interface. However, it lacks an easy toggle in the UI, complicates switching between old and new Reddit, and has issues on mobile devices and certain subdomains. Additionally, redirecting np (no participation) links can encourage undesirable brigading behavior.
Pros
  • Effectively redirects Reddit to the old, preferred design making it faster and cleaner.
  • Works reliably as of mid-2025 according to multiple users.
  • Simple and delightful to use for those who prefer the old Reddit layout.
  • Considered essential by users who value the classic Reddit experience.
Cons
  • Lacks an easy toggle (ON/OFF switch) within the extension dropdown, requiring users to enable/disable it via the full add-ons page.
  • Doesn't always work properly on mobile browsers, requiring users to manually switch to desktop site mode.
  • Some issues with redirecting specific Reddit subdomains (e.g., new.reddit.com vs sh.reddit.com).
  • Redirecting np links to old Reddit can encourage controversial behavior like brigading.

I don't visit reddit often, without this extension I would probably not visit it at all. It turns vastly overblown monstrous website into a one that is nice looking and fast.

Extension safety

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Old Reddit Redirect requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.

Risk likelihood
Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Firefox add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Browser Add-ons, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

Old Reddit Redirect is probably trust-worthy. Prefer other publishers if available. Exercise caution when installing this add-on.
