Features & Capabilities

Kupu is a Spark-sponsored Chrome extension that uses your phone's camera to instantly translate everyday objects into te reo Māori. Leveraging Google technology and the extensive resources of the Te Aka Māori Dictionary, it offers real-time translation by simply photographing or uploading an image of the object. Users can save, share, or try translations again easily.

While Kupu utilizes cutting-edge machine learning, some translations may vary in accuracy. The extension includes a Translation Feedback feature to help improve future results. This tool not only fosters a unique way to experience and learn te reo Māori but also honors the legacy of Professor John C. Moorfield, whose work underpins the comprehensive Māori dictionary used. Discover the world of te reo Māori in a fun, interactive manner with Kupu.

User Reviews

Took a picture of my hand which it errored for being "inappropriate" then my foot with the same error. I feel like it flags as inappropriate when it detects skin which is pretty over the top and annoying tbh.
