Nitter Redirect Firefox

Nitter Redirect

Redirects Twitter requests to Nitter, the privacy friendly alternative.

Features & Capabilities

Nitter Redirect is a Chrome extension that enhances your Twitter browsing privacy by automatically redirecting Twitter URLs to Nitter, a privacy-friendly alternative. It listens exclusively to requests made to various Twitter domains including twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com, pbs.twimg.com, and video.twimg.com, redirecting them to specified Nitter instances.

Users can customize which Nitter instance to use and easily toggle redirection on or off. The extension requires no unnecessary permissions, ensuring security and trustworthiness. Its open-source code is hosted on GitHub, encouraging transparency and community contributions. With recent updates, it now correctly handles redirections for Twitter URLs containing /tweets. Support the project through donations if you find it useful.

User Reviews

Pros: no-setup use, works for Twitter links, helpful as a fallback after LibRedirect changes, and lightweight code. Cons: reliability problems with ongoing failures, broken x.com redirects, lack of maintenance and unresponsiveness, and security/SSL warnings when reaching nitter.net. Overall, reviews are mixed: some like the no-config operation, but many report broken redirects, maintenance concerns, and security warnings.
Pros
  • No setup required; works with no config or sign-ins.
  • Works for Twitter (twitter.com) links.
  • Useful as an alternative when LibRedirect removed Nitter.
  • Lightweight, minimalist code.
Cons
  • Reliability issues; often stops working or does not work.
  • X.com/Twitter redirects fail or do nothing.
  • Not maintained / developer unresponsive; outdated.
  • Security/SSL warnings when connecting to nitter.net.

Is Nitter Redirect Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Nitter Redirect requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.
