Features & Capabilities

Features ✦ Custom bookmark bar which appears only on the new tab ✦ Select which bookmark folder will populate the Bookmark Bar ✦ Hide bookmark/folder names on the bookmark bar ✦ Bookmark bar that can be extended by up to 4 rows ✦ Top Sites ✦ Light and Dark themes

Click on the gear icon in the lower right corner of the new tab page to configure the extension.

Starting with version 1.4.2, the default folder that populates the bookmark bar can be changed under Settings —> Default folder

Note regarding the top sites Starting with version 1.4.0 and Firefox 69, the top sites in the extension’s newtab page match those in the browser builtin about:newtab page. So, to add/delete/reorder a top site, perform that edit in the browser's about:newtab page, the same will be reflected in the extension’s top site section.

Note regarding favicons Starting with version 1.2.2, the add-on includes support for favicons. The favicon solution is based on favicon.ico from the websites and is an approximate solution. The favicons are downloaded from the respective websites every time the bookmark bar is loaded. The favicon solution is turned off by default. It can be turned on in the settings page (Select the option “Get website icons”). A future more accurate solution for favicons is dependent on the resolution of the bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1315616

Extension Name Since version 1.4.0, the extension has been renamed to New2Tab (short for new newtab), which was previously Ephemeral Bookmark Bar.

Disable builtin bookmark bar after installing the addon (right click on the toolbar and uncheck Bookmark Toolbar). The multi row bookmark bar supports bookmarks, regular folders. Replaces the existing new tab page.

For Firefox 54.0 and later

User Reviews

Very happy to have back multirow bookmarks in firefox quantum! However, the multirows appear only in a new tab along with quite big, ugly sticky notes. Good idea to add "recent bookmarks", but all that could be done adding a decent "gear" symbol at the end of the bookmarks. It looks that I'm not the only one who don't like that. The X for closing the setting window is unnecessary extremely small. Can the developer make us happy? :-)

Is New2Tab Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

New2Tab requires very minimum permissions.
