NeuroSafe Reader Firefox

NeuroSafe Reader

Makes any website calmer, clearer, and easier to read. Designed for ADHD, dyslexia, autism, and sensory sensitivity.

Features & Capabilities

NeuroSafe Reader transforms any website into a calmer, clearer reading experience — designed specifically for people with ADHD, dyslexia, autism spectrum conditions, and sensory processing sensitivity.

The web is built for everyone but optimised for no one. Busy layouts, auto-playing videos, cookie banners, sidebar noise, and clashing colours create significant cognitive load for neurodivergent users. NeuroSafe removes that friction.

────────────────────────────── WHAT IT DOES ──────────────────────────────

TYPOGRAPHY

  • Switch to Atkinson Hyperlegible — a font designed for low vision and dyslexia
  • Adjust font size (14–26px), line spacing (1.4–2.4), and letter spacing
  • Larger text, more breathing room, less cramping

BACKGROUND

  • Cream — warm, soft off-white (recommended for dyslexia)
  • Grey — neutral, reduces glare
  • Dark — low-contrast dark mode
  • Original — leave unchanged

HIDE DISTRACTIONS

  • Adverts and tracking elements
  • Social share buttons
  • Comment sections
  • Sidebars and related posts
  • Popups and cookie banners (including dynamically injected ones)

MOTION & FOCUS

  • Stop all animations and auto-playing video
  • Reading progress bar — a thin teal line shows how far through an article you are
  • Paragraph highlight — a gentle yellow tint on the paragraph under your cursor guides your eye
  • Paragraph ruler lines — faint separators between paragraphs help maintain place

────────────────────────────── HOW IT WORKS ──────────────────────────────

One master toggle turns it on or off for the current page. All individual settings can be adjusted independently. Use the "Override" button to save different settings for specific websites — a news site might need sidebars hidden but a reference site doesn't.

Settings save automatically and persist across sessions.

────────────────────────────── PRIVACY ──────────────────────────────

NeuroSafe collects no data whatsoever. All settings are stored locally in your browser using Firefox's built-in storage API. Nothing is transmitted anywhere. No analytics. No tracking. No accounts.

────────────────────────────── MINIMUM FIREFOX VERSION ──────────────────────────────

Requires Firefox 140 or later (desktop) and Firefox for Android 142 or later. This ensures the built-in data collection consent system is supported, so Firefox can confirm to you directly that this extension collects no data.

Is NeuroSafe Reader Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

NeuroSafe Reader requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.
