User Reviews

Users value ServeStream for its minimalist, open-source, ad-free design and the ability to stream direct URLs (including credentials) while saving favorites. However, multiple reviews note a lack of updates leading to compatibility problems on newer Android versions, frequent connection drops, and unreliable playback. Metadata display is also inconsistent, with some streams not showing correct track info. Overall, it’s a lightweight, focused streaming client that shines when streams are supported by sources but suffers from maintenance and reliability issues.
Pros
  • Simple, clean, and lightweight interface that's easy to use.
  • Open-source, ad-free, and minimalist design.
  • Supports streaming direct URLs (including credentials) and lets you save favorite streams for quick access.
Cons
  • Outdated and not maintained, with compatibility issues on newer Android versions.
  • Streams frequently drop or fail to reconnect, reducing reliability.
  • Metadata handling is inconsistent, with missing or incorrect track information.

Very good app, the only thing I would wish for, is to have the option to always try to reconnect if it disconnects for any reason

Used to use ServeStream only, then preferred TuneIn for the stream info, but it refuses to play streams it once did. ServeStream is now the reliable one, with stream info if made available by source. Just need source IP info.

The app and concept is great. Minimalist, no ads, opensource, allows stream user/pass and light. There is only 3 issues and reason why i am not giving it 5 stars at the moment. Last update was in 2016, the app backup path should be allowed to be manually selected by the user and the song info at the bottom from the streams screen, does not display 100% properly (some letters end up on top of other letters) Fix these 3 things and it's 5 starts. These 3 things got me looking into transistor app.
