Maranox Wheelhouse: Skipper

Maranox Wheelhouse is the command station for working Irish fishing boats. It brings the seabed survey, your fishing operation and the rules that govern where you can shoot into a single tablet screen.

Wheelhouse is a companion fishing and seabed display built to sit beside your certified plotter and paper, not to replace them. It adds decision-support, compliance and situational-awareness context, so you can read the ground, your operation and the regulations at a glance.

The ground you fish
• INFOMAR seabed depth and Folk ground-type classification — twenty years of Irish state survey, offline. Rock, coarse, mixed, sand or mud, before you shoot.
• 608 shipwrecks, lighthouses and RNLI lifeboat stations for clearly credited local reference.
• EMODnet subsea cable layer so you can see snag hazards before the gear finds them.

Your fishing operation
• Gear strings — record where you shoot pots and nets, with soak timers and a Fishing Now view of what is down and for how long.
• Haul history — every string and every haul, building the record of the season.
• Fishing logbook with ICES-rectangle context for the catch record.
The rules, in one place
• Fishing rules and limits — the 6 and 12 nautical-mile lines, EU boxes and ICES rectangles.
• Closures — cod and hake boxes, conservation areas and VME closures.
• Mesh-size zones, protected and consent areas, and a Nephrops advisory.
• Live SFPA notices and DAFM arrangements pulled in, so a closure you did not hear about does not catch you out.

Live conditions
• Surface currents and a sea-conditions cursor readout for sea-surface temperature and current under the pointer.
• Live tide gauges and wave-buoy data from the Marine Institute.

Built for the wheelhouse
• A command-station interface for a mounted tablet — large targets, day, dusk and night backlight, and keep-awake so the screen stays on watch.
• Cloud sync keeps marks, tracks and settings across your devices.

Not for navigation
Maranox Wheelhouse is a planning, compliance and situational-awareness companion display. It is not a certified navigation system and must not be used as your primary means of navigation. Always navigate with your certified equipment, paper charts, VHF radio and full safety equipment.

Who built it
Maranox Wheelhouse is made by two Irish boaters who wanted commercial-grade decision support without commercial-grade hardware. It uses public INFOMAR data under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (Geological Survey Ireland and Marine Institute), with attribution shown in the app.
