Review summary

Beastie Bay DX is praised for its charming art style, engaging blend of city-building and monster collecting, and depth in gameplay. However, users often note slow progression due to scarce medals, text and UI glitches, inability to move structures, and the lack of save transfer from the free version. While it improves on microtransactions and offers a unique experience, some balance and pacing issues remain.
Pros
  • Fun and addictive gameplay combining city-building and monster collection.
  • Charming and nostalgic art style reminiscent of classic games.
  • Lots of depth with many things to unlock and do, including a well-developed battle system.
  • Better experience without microtransactions compared to the free version.
  • Unique blend of strategy with building combos and turn-based battles.
Cons
  • Difficulty in acquiring medals making progression slow and sometimes frustrating.
  • Several UI and text issues including grammar mistakes, missing spaces, and untranslated status effects.
  • Lack of a feature to move or rearrange structures after building, leading to messy layouts.
  • No save data transfer from the free version to this paid DX version, forcing players to start over.
  • Occasional balance issues such as unsuitable monster or item rewards at higher levels. Also, battles can feel slow or boring at times.

I'm rating it 5, so my review won't be hidden. Fun and cute game to play if not for one MAJOR ISSUE. A high-end or 12 token course at the agency SHOULDN'T show monsters below 3 stars, trashy items such as paper cloaks, and low intelligence. It's really insulting to see your time and effort be rewarded with trashy options. Not to mention that this is a PAID dx version of the free game. Aside from that, it suffers from minor grammar issues such as "Puddler Awas deafed" sentences.

When I finally, finally saved up enough medals to buy the good "ally" from the $-#+$ bear, I got a necklace I've literally sold for 3g before. -4 stars for false advertising. Also, I just had 2 of my 3 allies wiped before I could even attack once because they got a surprise attack and it happened to be a boss. A boss shouldn't get a cheap shot before the fight starts.

Slow to get medals, & you should be able to claim more without restarting the game. The building combo system is neat and adds an element of strategy to setting up your town; the first 5 years in-game passes far too quickly when focused on this. Nice amount of depth and plenty of monsters, just progression is slower than your average Kairosoft game (which isn't entirely a bad thing!). A few EN text errors too, such as a lack of space in the attack message during battle, but nothing gamebreaking.

Kairosoft doesn't disappoint again as I move through their extensive catalog. This one is especially great & has lots to do, and the set up is a bit different than their other games and incorporates town-building with a turn-based pokémon aspect of recruiting animals. Lots to do & unlock with a good amount of depth. Well done guys. Medals are hard to come by however, that aspect feels unbalanced especially as you progress and things cost 20+ medals to upgrade. Still I'm enjoying every minute.

Pretty nostalgic game, but there's some translation error in a battle where the status effect on the enemy displayed in Chinese, even though the game settings is on English.

Honestly, this is great. Definitely some things that could be improved, but for what it is, it's great. I wish there was an option to move structures after you build them but maybe it's something I unlock later on. I'd like to clean up my build as it's super messy but it works.

Couldn't figure out how to build the first structure. It just moved it around instead of building. No settings or buttons in game helped. So I deleted it and looked for a game with intuitive controls.

One of the slowest Kairosoft games. The battles are boring, and the rest of the time you're waiting for exploration to be finished, so you're essentially just staring at your screen.

Simply wonderful. Though it all seems simple, there are many fun and long lasting things to engage in. Lastly, it has an effortlessly charming art style that takes me right back to PC gaming in the mid 90s. Great job, great game.
