1. "Jomon Map"

2. "Jomon Calendar"
The Jomon people began a sedentary lifestyle, taking advantage of the blessings of nature. They survived by consuming seasonal foods: wild vegetables in spring, river fish in summer, nuts in autumn, and hunting animals in winter. Read about their seasonal lifestyles through the story of Jomonta, a child from the Jomon period.

③ The Jomon Compass
The Jomon people knew the seasons by knowing the direction of sunrise and sunset.
Large stones were placed at Jomon ruins like sundials. Some Jomon ruins resemble Stonehenge in England. It is believed that they used these stones to pray in gratitude for the blessings of nature.
The Jomon Compass combined a compass with a sun compass and the directions of sunrise and sunset. It was a compass for living in harmony with nature, combining a timetable of daytime and nighttime hours.

During the Jomon period, temperatures were a whopping 2 degrees Celsius higher than they are today! With temperatures 2 degrees higher in Japan, sea levels rose, and the Kanto Plain became a sea.
