Cyberdeck: Retro Launcher Android

Cyberdeck: Retro Launcher

Turn your phone into a Y2K brick phone. Eleven handsets, numbers that sing.

Overview

Features & Capabilities

Remember when phones had buttons? When the screen was green, the battery lasted a week, and you knew everyone's number by the shape it made under your thumb?

Cyberdeck turns your Android phone into an early-2000s brick phone. Set it as your home screen and your glossy glass slab becomes a chunky handset — grey-green LCD, rubber keys, and a ringer voice of its own.

ELEVEN HANDSETS

• Three included: Y2K Silver (the original brick), Bureau Ivory (1997 beige with a stub antenna), Pebble Mint (a tiny egg-shaped candybar)
• Plastic Era pack — Obsidian, Bubblegum, Aqua Shell, Chrome Slide
• Hard Cases pack — Field Ranger, Executive Gold, Neon Arcade, Carbon Stealth
• Each pack is one optional purchase, four handsets, yours for good
• Every handset is an original design with its own body, backlight and voice: square beeper, desk bell, music box, FM bell, toy piano, water droplet, glass pluck, signal horn, warm marimba, chiptune pulse, dark pluck
• The keypad and the ringer share that handset's voice, so swapping handsets changes how the whole phone sounds

NUMBERS THAT PLAY A TUNE

• Save someone under MELODIES and their phone number becomes a melody
• Each keypress plays that digit's note; press CALL and the whole number plays through once, then dials
• Tune it on a pitch grid: drag a column and every other place that digit appears moves with it. Notes snap to a scale, so it cannot land wrong.
• Suggest writes you a tune to start from; pick a scale and a root and shuffle until one fits the person

EVERYTHING ELSE WORKS

• LCD home screen with a retro clock, real battery bars, and real signal bars — just like you remember
• A real dialer: tap the keypad, hear the notes, press CALL
• Scrolling text menu that opens your actual apps — navigate with the arrow keys like it's 2002
• Customize the label on your idle screen (make it yours)
• Keypad sounds you can toggle any time

GOOD TO KNOW

• The old DTMF beeps are gone — keys play pitched notes now. Y2K Silver's square beeper is the closest to the old feel, short and hard-edged, but it is a new sound rather than a reproduction. Pitched keys are the point.
• Melodies play when you dial out. They are not an incoming ringtone.
• No contacts permission. The speed-dial book is typed in by hand and never leaves the phone.
• Every sound follows the in-app Keypad sounds toggle.

NO NONSENSE

• No ads. No tracking. No account. Nothing you type into the phone leaves it.
• Tiny download, instant startup
• Switch back to your normal launcher any time in system Settings

Set it as your home screen for the full effect, hand your phone to a friend, and watch their face.

Your phone. 2002 again.
