  • Configure the methodology to dynamically obtain a fresh list of proxy servers.

The default list of proxy servers is obtained from a publicly available list.

    • find a working proxy by:
      • allowing fallback to other proxies in list
        • which is default behavior
      • enable the proxy in a new tab
      • open the URL for a site that prints the IP of the HTTP client making the request
      • select the working proxy in the list as the first proxy to use
  2. security
    • don't pass any private information through these proxies without using an encrypted connection
    • don't ignore browser warnings for invalid HTTPS certificates
      • the proxy could be attempting to man-in-the-middle using a self-signed certificate

Is Proxy Manager Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Proxy Manager requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.
