Steps

Open a Medium article, waits a sec or two for the page to load.
Estimates a rough word count.
Alters page content to add word count next to read time.

Why? I have limited content consumption time so I end up looking at prominent figures and reading the main dots. For this reason, read time isn't significant to me, compared to word count. If you're a writer, word count is an interesting metric to track in your niche.
