Magic Downloader Firefox

Magic Downloader

By: Bayoumi Add-on
Companion for the free Magic Downloader desktop app. Detects video and streams (HLS, DASH, MP4, plus ~1800 sites), adds a Download button on the player, and sends your pick to the app for fast multi-connection downloads. Cookies opt-in.

Features & Capabilities

Magic Downloader is a browser companion for the free, open-source Magic Downloader desktop app (Windows).

• Detects video and streams on any page — direct HLS (.m3u8) and DASH (.mpd), plain MP4, and ~1800 sites via yt-dlp — and overlays a blue "⬇ Download" button right on the player. A badge shows how many videos were found. • The popup lists every available quality/format so you can pick one. • Right-click any link → "Download with Magic Downloader". • Optionally capture the browser's own downloads (off by default).

When you choose something, the extension hands the URL to the desktop app (running on your own computer at http://127.0.0.1:7373), which downloads it with multiple parallel connections, pause/resume, and a queue.

Privacy: page/media URLs go only to the app on your own machine — never to the developer. Login cookies are OFF by default and opt-in only (a popup toggle that asks permission), used just for private/authenticated downloads. No analytics, no remote code.

Is Magic Downloader Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Magic Downloader requires a lot of sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.

This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

Magic Downloader is recently added, and hasn't been around long enough for us to gather enough data to accurately assess its risk level.
