LocalStorage Editor Firefox

LocalStorage Editor

Add, edit, copy, remove, export and import local- and session- storage data

Features & Capabilities

LocalStorage Editor adds a toolbar button to view and modify the localStorage and sessionStorage for the current tab. Open the storage editor to filter, search, copy, export, modify, add and import items, and to sync or discard changes as needed.

It uses permissions including storage, clipboardRead, clipboardWrite, and <all_urls> to inject a small content-script that acts as a proxy between the UI and the page storage. Quick select-all enables exporting or copying all items, while leaving items unselected helps you modify and sync only a subset.

User Reviews

LocalStorage Editor is valued as an all-in-one toolkit for localStorage management, enabling users to inspect, back up, restore, and clear data. Reviewers highlight its usefulness for migrating data between domains and for testing different storage structures, as well as its overall reliable operation. The main caveats are UI complexity and occasional stability issues with large values or specific bugs (e.g., download filename date bug). Overall, it’s a helpful extension with some rough edges to refine.
Pros
  • All-in-one localStorage toolkit (inspect, backup, restore, and clear) for convenient management
  • Useful for migrating or transferring localStorage data across domains/sites
  • Generally reliable and works as intended across reviews

Saving large values seems to cause problems. It fails to update the key and can cause a loss of all of your local storage if the large value is the first in line to be saved. I'm guessing there is an overzealous timeout delay or something. It is handy for viewing the full value of a local storage key if it exceeds what is shown in the inspector though.
