NEW : now backgrounded tabs network access is blocked (zero data loaded) NEW : add an option to prefetch the main page (only html. No image, no script etc...) to get the title (may fail) and favicon (may fail also).

LoadTabOnSelect prevents new tabs from automatically loading, instead loading them on selection.

The intended usage of the addon is to facilitate power-users who open many tabs before viewing, but dislike auto-playing videos (and other annoyances).

This addon uses the WebExtensions API, and therefore fully supports Firefox 48+.

As a bonus the extension "fix" google.* search links prefix.

Tips about:config

To background a page with ctrl set browser.tabs.loadInBackground to true. To background popup with ctrl set browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground to true. To background bookmarked links set browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground to true.

Do not use this addon! What it does is hold your tabs hostage - it replaces tab address with a text string which is only understood by this addon. If anything happens to this addon - consider all your tabs gone, they will not load anymore. Even if you re-activtae or re-install the addon, this won't solve the problem, the tabs will still not load! Same thing will happen if the addon becomes incompatible with the future FF releases - you will lose all your tabs. I am writing this looking at multiple dead tabs which I can't load anymore after de-activating and then re-activating this addon...
