Live Reload — monitor and reload html, css, js

Addon for web devs. Monitor included JS, CSS and/or HTML in frames and automatically reload the host page when a change is detected in the included source. Supports inline reloading of stylesheets and frames without reloading the host page.

Features & Capabilities

Live Reload is a powerful Chrome extension designed for web developers to monitor and automatically reload HTML, CSS, and JavaScript sources. It detects changes in included scripts, stylesheets, and frames, and reloads either the entire host page or just the updated source file, boosting development efficiency.

This extension supports inline reloading of stylesheets and frames without the need for a full page refresh, speeding up your workflow. While it cannot monitor files served via the local file system (file://), it can easily be used with files served over HTTP using simple servers like Python, NodeJS, or PHP. For troubleshooting and feature requests, the developers encourage users to utilize the built-in debugging tools and GitHub issue tracker.

User Reviews

Pros
  • Works effectively with local servers (like XAMPP, MAMP, WAMP) for live reload of files
  • Easy to use and set up with minimal configuration required
  • Helps developers save time by reducing the need for constant manual refreshes
  • HTTP server agnostic, not tied to any specific framework
Cons
  • Excessive permissions required (access to all website data)
  • Some basic functionality appears to fail for certain users
  • Limitations in monitoring specific file types or dealing with dynamic content (e.g., Captchas)
  • Does not support local files directly due to addon restrictions

Works like a charm and is exactly what I was looking for. I'm using it with VSCode's live server to host some web assets that I am auto reloading using this extension. Only downside is the permissions seem excessive but I am not experienced enough with extension dev to comment on that.
