Garlic planting climate and planting season
The flat plains in our country have a favorable climate for garlic from November to April. Therefore, 90% of garlic is planted in the country from October to November. Garlic is a temperature sensitive crop and it is important to have a proper planting season for abundant and quality produce. In Maharashtra, garlic should be planted in October. This crop of garlic responds to cold air. However, dry weather is required during the ripening and harvesting period of garlic. After planting garlic cloves, the leaf grows and its number increases. This period is usually 45 to 50 days. During this time the night temperature is 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. The day temperature ranges from 25 to 28 degrees Celsius. Also the air should have 70 to 80 percent humidity and 11 to 12 hours of sunlight. After this the petals begin to feed and grow in clusters. This period is 30 to 40 days. During this period the humidity should be low and the temperature should be high. This makes it easier to dry the leaves. In Maharashtra, garlic should be planted in the last week of October. Late planting reduces the size, weight loss and yield. Varieties grown in cold and hilly areas are different. This variety has 10 to 12 petals, but each petal weighs 4 to 5 grams and is large in size. These varieties do not adapt to the climate of Maharashtra. Only the leaves grow and the petals do not form.

Land
As the garlic clove grows in the soil, it needs a well drained and well drained soil for growth. Ground level should be 6 to 7. High alkaline or arable soils reduce yields. High yield can be achieved by providing good supply of organic manure in medium black soil. Gadu is not well fed in heavy black, chopan, murmad and light soils. For this, such lands should be avoided for garlic cultivation.

Improved breeds
Garlic is a crop grown by branching method. Since the crop does not produce fruits and seeds, new high yielding varieties have been selected from the local varieties. Some species are known locally. For example, East Jamnagar, Mahabaleshwar, Ladwa, Malik, Fawari, Ameleta and Rajeli Gadi are popularly known as. In the last 10 to 12 years, work is underway to develop improved varieties by selecting various varieties in various agricultural research centers. From research Godavari (Selection-2), Shweta (Selection-10), Agrifound White (G-41), Yamuna White (G-50), G-1, GG-2, G-282, G-323, Phule Baswant, Bhima Omkar etc. are suitable for the plains of India. G-41 variety gives good yield in areas free from diseases like purple taxa and brown taxa and also has good storage capacity. This variety is suitable for Pune, Nashik, Satara, Ahmednagar, etc. Phule Baswant and Godavari are suitable varieties for cultivation of purple garlic. The number of petals in G-50 variety is 30 to 40.
