If you lose the remote or it is out of reach, your phone acts as the Genie TV remote.

■ Works even on phones without infrared

Previous remote control apps only worked on phones equipped with an infrared transmitter. Since modern phones lack this component, there were many cases where the app could not be used even after installation.

This app has expanded the connection methods to three options. You simply need to select the method that works on your phone.

• Bluetooth — Connects directly to the set-top box. This method is used on the latest phones that lack an infrared component.

• Wi-Fi — The app detects Android TVs and set-top boxes on the same Wi-Fi network. You only need to enter the 6-digit code displayed on the TV screen once, and it will connect automatically from then on.

• Infrared — If your phone has a transmitter, you can use it immediately without pairing, just like before.

■ Works with Android TV and Google TV

The Wi-Fi connection uses the standard Android TV remote specifications. It connects in the same way not only to set-top boxes but also to any Android TV-based device, such as Android TV, Google TV, and Chromecast. The app scans the same Wi-Fi network to find the device, and you just need to enter the 6-digit code displayed on the TV screen once.

■ Enter search terms using your phone keyboard

You don't need to move the arrow keys one character at a time to type a title into the TV search bar. Simply press the keyboard button and type using your phone keyboard, and it will be entered directly into the TV.

• Wi-Fi Connection — Sends Korean, English, numbers, and symbols without restrictions.

• Bluetooth Connection — Sends English, numbers, and symbols. Korean characters are also sent, but since input may vary depending on the set-top box keyboard, the app will notify you before sending.

• If characters that cannot be sent are mixed in, it identifies which characters are which. This prevents unintentional partial input.

■ You only need to select once on the first launch

When you first open the app, a screen to choose the connection method appears. Once selected, the app will open directly to that screen every time you launch it. You can change this at any time later in the settings.

■ A screen designed to look like a real remote control

• D-Pad — Use the large circular pad to move up, down, left, right, and press OK. Presses register even without pinpointing the arrow.

• Swipe — Swipe the screen to navigate through lists and tap to select. It is convenient for long swipes.

• Back · Home · Text Input · Mute · Volume — Only frequently used buttons are prominently displayed.

• Short vibrations are provided for all buttons and swipes. You can feel with your hand whether a button has been pressed, even while watching TV.

■ Infrared Screen Remains Unchanged

The existing button layout for Channel, Volume, Power, External Input, and Number Buttons has been maintained. You can use it just as you have been.
