2024-04-08 | Julian Elias | en | Update to the update below - Nov '24 Alex contacted me and refunded around $65. I've been using GPTZero Origin in Chrome pretty regularly for the past year. It's helpful. While it may not be 100% accurate every time, in my opinion it's reliable. I make sure my students know I use it to scan their essays, papers, etc, and I'd say that knowledge deters many of them from plagiarizing. I also tell my students they should use the free version of GPTZero to check their work before they submit it. All in all, I'm glad to have Origin at my disposal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Update - November 2024 I upgraded to the Premium plan. It's supposed to cost $155.88. https://gptzero.me/pricing From their website, here are the prices: Essential = $99.96 annually Premium = $155.88 annually Professional = $299.88 annually Yesterday GPTZero took $192 out of my bank account - for the Premium plan, which costs $155.88. This doesn't make sense. None of the plans cost $192. I sent multiple emails asking for an explanation but have received only an auto response. Very frustrating and disappointing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have a subscription for which I paid $120 to GPTZero in November 2023. I don't really know which tools or features I'm able to access compared to non-subscribers. Sometimes Origin seems to work well, but other times it has stopped working after approximately ten minutes and given me this message: "You have exceeded 150 uses per hour." I don't think I ever "exceeded 150 uses per hour," especially not when I was using Origin for only 10-15 minutes at a time. In a nutshell, I like Origin - but I've had some frustrating experiences with it over the past six months.
2024-11-07 | Anthony Guijarro | en | works okay for what it's intended for but is overall a broken extension. it breaks a lot of website code, especially for device theme related stuff which is horrible for accessibility. would recommend setting this to only access site data on click in your browser extension settings

2024-08-01 | Mark Kaplowitz | en | I have found Origin by GPTZero to be a very useful tool when assessing student work. I like that I can right-click on any type of student writing that I receive in my LMS and have an evaluation generated that breaks down how much each sentence contributes to the determination of AI vs. human contribution. I like that I can download a pdf of the evaluation. I like that the evaluation not only claims what percentage of a work is AI-generated, but also assigns a degree of confidence in that evaluation. And, frankly, GPTZero's evaluation of student writing aligns with my intuitive evaluation roughly 90% of the time, so it's nice to have GPTZero in my corner, even if it's only a probabilistic assessment that cannot explain how it reaches its determinations.
2024-07-29 | DANIEL DEL FERRARO | en | This is so incredibly useful as a teacher. Oftentimes, I'll read a student's work and think that it doesn't sound like them at all. This tool helps me to check their writing to see if they used AI to craft it. The percent readouts are great to show students and parents to make the point very clear.
