Session Alive Firefox

Session Alive

By: Arun
Keep your Session Alive at any website and never get logged out. Forget the session timeout messages. Multi-Account Containers supported.

Features & Capabilities

Session Alive keeps your web sessions active across sites by running in the background or the foreground. It offers two modes: Background AJAX keep-alives that ping a trigger URL without reloading the page, and Foreground Page Reloads that auto-refresh tabs to bypass JavaScript idle timers. Create rules, set intervals, and manage multiple accounts using per-rule settings in a centralized dashboard.

It includes smart auto-stop to prevent wasted activity, browser notifications for status updates, and an easy rule manager to enable/disable rules. The extension is open source and safe, with permissions to inject scripts, access tabs, and display notifications. It supports Multi-Account Containers for separate session management.

User Reviews

Users praise Session Alive for keeping sessions alive and preventing short timeouts, especially on banking and sign-out-heavy sites, and for helping when sites sign out frequently. However, many reports show unreliable results across several sites, setup/UI difficulties, and rule-management instability (rules dropping, 'no rules running' errors). Occasional mode limitations and suspend-related issues are noted. Overall, a strong concept with high usefulness and positive sentiment, but reliability and usability improvements are needed.
Pros
  • Keeps sessions alive by automatically refreshing to prevent short timeouts on banking and other sign-out-prone sites
  • Works well when configured as designed and is generally reliable on supported sites
  • Helps on sites that frequently sign out (e.g., OKTA, admin UIs), improving browsing flow
  • Highly positive reception; many users call it a great/very useful addon
Cons
  • Not reliable across all sites; users report it failing on Chase, Secret Server, oVirt, WealthSimple, and others
  • Setup and usage can be difficult due to sparse directions and a confusing UI
  • Rule management can be unstable (rules drop during execution, not detected for loaded pages, 'no rules running' errors) and may require restarts
  • Some functionality issues in certain modes (foreground/background) or when Windows is suspended

I use 5 or 6 websites that constantly log me out because of a very low timeout configured by our IT team. Well, not anymore, I'm still logged, this is awesome. Thank you Arun !

Thanks for the considerable effort you put into Session Alive. I know how challenging is coding. However, I've now read several responses from you stating that you don't recommend Session Alive use with banking sites. Ok, say so up front. The problem I had - before I installed - is that at the top blurb level, it doesn't read '(Not for banking.)', nor does it state that anywhere in "About this extension". So I've wasted my time, but you don't want that, right? BTW, I suspect this time-out duration issue is more about greed than security, more about the nationwide cost of cloud server seats. Years ago, my credit union default time-out was 10 minutes, but I could option for 40, which was enough for me. Then a national banking services company (was Digital Insight, now Candescent) took over with (originally) free web services forming a near monopoly at CUs. Now 10 has long been the firm limit. Yet my giant credit card bank gives me much longer, 20-30 minutes. Also BTW, upper middle class users get around this corporate hassle (enforced on local CUs) by paying monthly for money management software that they need daily, which quickly logs in, uploads and downloads the state of multiple banking-financial websites, and quickly logs out.
