JSON Beautifier & Editor

Display JSON objects by transforming them into Syntax editable highlighted HTML

The JSON Beautifier & Editor Chrome extension automatically detects JSON pages and transforms them into a human-readable, syntax-highlighted format. It supports editing, searching, and reorganizing JSON objects with ease. Users can switch between tree, code, and text views, making JSON readability and modification intuitive.

This powerful tool accommodates various JSON mime types, including JSONP formats, and provides both light and dark themes to adapt to your browser's settings. Features include clickable URLs in JSON, collapsible object trees, and persistence of your expanded view on refresh. It also supports beautifying local JSON files and runs efficiently without impacting browser performance.

User reviews

Users appreciate the add-on’s ability to handle large JSON files and provide robust editing features like formatting, sorting, and collapsing JSON structures. However, multiple reviews highlight its lack of proper Firefox integration, requiring manual copy-paste to load/save JSON data. The UI suffers from very light, small text without customization options, leading to poor readability and awkward usability. Overall, while it is a valuable tool for developers needing editing capabilities beyond Firefox's native viewer, its user experience and integration limitations reduce its convenience.
Pros
  • Can open and edit large JSON files that Firefox's internal viewer cannot handle.
  • Provides features like formatting, sorting, and presenting JSON data in a readable manner.
  • Includes collapse/expand all options for easier navigation of JSON structures.
  • Serves as both a JSON beautifier and editor, offering editing functionality beyond simple viewing.
Cons
  • Lacks integration with Firefox's native JSON viewer; cannot open JSON files directly from Firefox without copying and pasting.
  • Does not support loading or saving JSON files directly; users must manually copy and paste JSON data in and out of the editor.
  • User interface issues such as very light text colors and small font size, with no options to customize colors or zoom for better readability.
  • Has an awkward or less intuitive user experience, making it difficult for some users to use effectively.

It works... Not as expected, but it works... I expected it to be integrated with Firefox, opening a JSON file directly from it, or entering edit mode on an open JSON (since Firefox 53, JSON files are natively viewable in it, so there's no need for JSON viewer extensions.) Long story short, it doesn't. Not only that, but it also cannot load or save JSON, it literally is a JSON editor, ONLY an editor, without any other functionality, not even load/save! The JSON data must be copied and pasted into the editor window and, after any editing is done, the code copied and pasted back out into a JSON file. The editor is awkward to use (at least, it has collapse/expand all options).
