Under the Hood:
Real-time formant shifting via Android's standard pitch-shift/time-stretch requires chaining it in series with that engine. In such a serial chain, downstream formant shift (after pitch/time-stretch) is the standard approach, since it favors detail preservation.
Flash instead applies it upstream to prioritize the real-time performance of Android's standard engine — this also fully removes the cepstral coefficient inversion step, cutting processing load further.
