My tests on e-mails to and from friends and family suggest that between about -2.5 and +4 is emotionally neutral, and that at least 200 words are needed to get a meaningful score (and it isn't perfect even on 1300 words). To gauge the sentiment of an individual message for marketing purposes, you'll probably have to control for at least the separate biases of the author and the subject matter. May be useful in weekly/monthly moving averages for personal mood tracking. |
