It not only provides notifications for new emails but also keeps your ProtonMail session active, preventing automatic logouts. The extension features several customisable settings like fetch intervals, session persistence and enables peeking at your inbox for unread emails. It however warns that choosing to persist sessions after closing the browser will write your mailbox password on your hard drive for session persistence.
