Your External IP is an identification number generated by your provider from your device's connection to a network. This number can keep changing or be fixed and to consult yours just install this extension.

But why do I need to know what my External IP is?

A network administrator who has more than 1 internet link needs to constantly consult your IP to check which one is ONLINE.
If you use a VPN and want to connect to another network, you need to know what your IP is.
Every Web Designer or Developer who uses a transfer protocol like FTP or SSH needs to know what your IP is to connect to your destination.
